The 101: In April 2012 I put out a call to producers, asking them to send me their two favourite samples.

The deal: I would use their samples to build 2 tracks, which I would release as a free EP in May 2012.

I love the energy and ‘rawness’ of the original version. This rework is not about diverting away from the original, or throwing in as many tricks as possible, or changing the genre. It’s all about maintaining the groove and the energy that AWOLNATION captured so well.

Yes, happy new year! I hope you all made the most of the last month of 2011 and you’re all ready for the year ahead. And what a year it’s going to be…

2011 saw me reach points I never thought I would be able to reach. Highlights have to be remixing Chris Lake, featuring on Ultra Records, ‘He Knows’ being selected by Chuckie for his compilation that stormed the charts in Holland, reaching 35 on the Tech House chart with ‘I Don’t Mind’, and getting support from artists like Pleasurekraft, Olav Basoski, 123XYZ, DONS, and other giants whose music I’ve looked up to since the beginning. But 2012 is bringing in even bigger things.

I’ve been very busy in the studio finishing up remixes for D.O.N.S, Jesse Voorn, Angel Stoxx and Pascal & Pearce. Even bigger things lined up are collaborations with some very big local guys (no names mentioned, you’ll have to wait and see), and remixes for Peter Gelderblom and Goldfish.

Big tings g’waan! Let’s make 2012 one for the books!

Two slices of tasty news this time, first up my collaboration with Nelski is finally out and available to buy at Beatport. It’s been one of my favourite projects to work on, the tune is light-hearted and doesn’t take itself too seriously, so do yourself a favour and give it a listen (and a buy if you dig it).

Secondly, my He Knows EP – which is out now on Serotonin Digital – has been getting big love from all sides. Support from Olav Basoski, Slam, MC Flipside, Cevin Fisher, Min & Mal and D.O.N.S. Yesterday I had an awesome time at Deep Town House Nights (Tokyo Star, Greenside, South Africa), which turned out to be one of my favourite shows to date. The crowd was one of the most responsive I’ve ever played to and the energy in there was unbelievable.

It’s funny how often the smaller venues pump out better vibes than the big clubs around the country, and that definitely happened last night. To top it off, I hit the record button just before going on, so:

Yes, that’s right. These chaps here, made famous for their bouncy tech tunes like Tarantula, Carny and Harmageddon, have charted one of my new tracks in their latest Beatport chart.

Chris James, head honcho of one of my favourite record labels Dubnoir, got in touch with me a few weeks back asking me to put together the first podcast in a monthly series. I thought it was a great idea so naturally I snapped up the opportunity and started putting it all together. I decided I wanted to structure it based on a set I would play out live so it’s pretty much rammed full of bouncy tech house, house and techno, all flavoured with those jacking vibes.

This is what came out at the end, what I feel is a pretty solid podcast and an accurate representation of what I’m playing out at the moment. Best of all, it’s free!

Yes, I have fallen a bit behind on the blog posts, it won’t happen again!

Anyway, I’ll take the opportunity to update you with what’s been going down here and what is about to go down. My latest 2-track EP – Chicago EP – dropped last week; it’s up here under the Featured Releases section where you can find a link which will direct you to Beatport where you can pick both of the tracks up.

The most exciting thing I have to share with you is that Chris Lake has picked up 2 of my originals – ‘Canned Music’ and ‘I Don’t Mind’ – which he will be releasing through his label Rising Music in the coming month. Even more good news, he’s asked me to remix his new single! The track is called Sundown and features an unbelievable vocal. The original mix is definitely going to be a massive hit so keep your ears to the ground for this one.

And even MORE good news (yes, more), is that my collaboration with Jeff Doubleu will be releasing through Jack Union at the end of this month on the 30th Jack Union release.
